Description

Learn more about Sophos EDR User

Sophos EDR User protects employees’ devices and gives the in-house IT team tools to investigate and respond to suspicious activity. Endpoint Detection and Response combines preventive protection with information about what happened on a device, helping assess a warning with more context than an isolated alert provides.

Protection and investigation work together

Sophos EDR includes preventive Sophos Endpoint protection against malware, ransomware and techniques that exploit vulnerabilities. EDR adds detection and response capabilities for suspicious activity requiring further investigation. This is especially useful when an attack uses legitimate applications or stolen credentials rather than looking like a conventional malware file.

Handle the important findings first

Risk-based detections and consolidated cases help prioritise work. The team can examine processes, device activity and connections between events. Live Discover queries current device data; historical events can be investigated in the Sophos Data Lake. Analysis can therefore use recorded information even when a laptop is unreachable. Available history and data volume depend on the licence and actual collection.

Take targeted action on a suspicion

When a device is considered affected, the team can isolate it and initiate further action. Live Response provides direct, logged remote access for administrative and forensic tasks, such as examining processes or running investigation tools. Appropriate permissions and deliberate authorisation are required. The Sophos Live Response guide explains setup and security requirements.

EDR, XDR or a managed service?

Sophos EDR User suits companies that take responsibility for their own investigations and response. The tools do not decide how an incident should be assessed and handled. Sophos XDR User expands investigations with additional security data beyond endpoints. An MDR service adds ongoing analysis and response by Sophos specialists.

The User licence is selected by user count. Sophos EDR Server covers server workloads. Before deployment, clarify supported operating systems, existing protection software and responsibility for alerts so the technology fits daily operations.
