Sophos Email Portal Encryption Add-on

Sophos Email Portal Encryption Add-on enables protected exchange of confidential emails through a web portal. Instead of placing the message directly in the external recipient’s mailbox, Sophos stores it encrypted in the portal. The recipient signs in to read the message and reply securely. The add-on complements an appropriate Sophos Email licence.

Exchange confidential content through the portal

For confidential business documents, protection matters beyond transport between mail servers. Portal Encryption moves access to message content into an environment that requires sign-in. The recipient receives a notification and opens the message through its link. Replies are also exchanged encrypted through the portal. This differs from ordinary email delivered directly to the inbox and should be clearly explained to those involved.

Configure protected sending appropriately

Administrators control use through Secure Message policies and assign the add-on entitlement to the intended users. Notifications and the portal can reflect the company’s branding, helping external recipients recognise the organisation behind the protected exchange. Before rollout, test sending, sign-in and a reply with representative recipients.

Choose the appropriate encryption method

Portal Encryption suits exchanges where confidential content should be accessed through a signed-in portal. Recipients must be able to use this additional access step. It does not automatically guarantee compliance with specific privacy or industry regulations; policies, access permissions and actual data handling also matter.

The add-on is licensed separately and remains an additional entitlement with Sophos Email Plus. Its quantity must not exceed the existing Sophos Email base licence. Selection depends on current licence coverage and the intended senders, rather than just the number of possible external recipients.
