Description

Learn more about Sophos Identity Threat Detection and Response

Sophos Identity Threat Detection and Response, or ITDR, reveals security risks around user and technical accounts. It helps identify problematic permissions, identity configuration weaknesses and signs of compromised credentials. It adds a crucial question to device protection: who can access what, and is that access being abused?

Treat identities as part of the attack surface

An attack need not start with a malicious file. A stolen password or excessive permission can already open access to business applications. ITDR brings information about human and non-human identities together, including technical accounts used by applications. This overview helps the security team assess risky access in context instead of checking accounts in isolation.

Identify risks before they become incidents

Assessment of the identity environment reveals misconfigurations and risky permissions and prioritises findings. Sophos describes a Microsoft Entra ID integration for ongoing security-posture assessment. Dark-web findings about exposed credentials can also inform the assessment. The team gains concrete starting points, such as reviewing unnecessary privileges or securing an affected account. Corrections must suit the environment and actually be implemented.

Investigate suspicious account use more precisely

Detection and case handling help assess unusual identity activity. Depending on integrations and permissions, responses such as locking an account or resetting a password are available. This is useful with extensive privileges but can also interrupt work and technical processes. Responsibilities and approvals therefore belong in deployment planning.

Complement existing security operations

Sophos ITDR suits companies incorporating identity risks into investigation and response. ITDR is available as a standalone product and integrates with Sophos XDR or MDR. With in-house handling, the internal team owns assessment and action; with MDR, analyst involvement depends on the agreed service scope. An ITDR licence alone does not add a separate MDR service.

ITDR is licensed by number of users. Check existing licences, identity platforms, required integration permissions and availability in the chosen Sophos data region before ordering. ITDR expands identity visibility but replaces neither endpoint protection nor careful account and permissions management.
