{"id":22383,"date":"2017-07-17T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-07-17T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.avanet.com\/kb\/assign-sophos-central-licenses-to-users\/"},"modified":"2022-06-16T19:46:43","modified_gmt":"2022-06-16T18:46:43","slug":"assign-sophos-central-licenses-to-users","status":"publish","type":"kb","link":"https:\/\/www.avanet.com\/en\/kb\/assign-sophos-central-licenses-to-users\/","title":{"rendered":"Assign Sophos Central licenses to users"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In this article, we will show you how to assign a user automatically created by Sophos Central to an existing login, so that the licenses are counted correctly.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-voraussetzungen\">Requirements<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Sophos Central Account<\/li><li>User login with an Admin or Super Admin role<\/li><li>You understand how the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avanet.com\/en\/kb\/how-is-sophos-central-licensed\/\">Sophos Central licensing model<\/a> works<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ausgangslage\">Initial situation<\/h2>\n\n<p>In Sophos Central, you have the option to distribute either personalized or global setup files. If a user installs a global setup file on his computer, Sophos Central logically cannot associate this user, thus generating a user itself. The user created automatically by Sophos Central is given a name that is structured as follows: <code>Hostname\\user<\/code> <em>(Hostname: computer name \/ User: user name of the logged-in user)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> If there is no user yet that you could link to the automatically created user, you can simply rename it. To learn how to do this, see the article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avanet.com\/en\/kb\/rename-users-in-sophos-central-admin\/\">&#8220;Renaming Sophos Central users&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-am-sophos-central-account-anmelden\">1. log in to the Sophos Central account<\/h3>\n\n<p>Log in to <a href=\"https:\/\/central.sophos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">\n  <code>https:\/\/central.sophos.com<\/code>\n<\/a> to log in to Sophos Central Admin.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-alle-benutzer-anzeigen\">2. show all users<\/h3>\n\n<p>Click on the menu item <code>People<\/code> in the <strong>sidebar<\/strong>. Now all users are listed, which you yourself or the system has created so far. Search for the user that Sophos Central automatically created and remember the generated name.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-benutzer-bearbeiten\">3. edit user<\/h3>\n\n<p>Once you have remembered the name, now find the existing user you want to assign this login to. Click on the <code>Namen des Benutzers<\/code> to access its profile view. Select this name and click the button with the <code>&gt;<\/code>.
