Sophos Central Server Protection – Intercept X for Server
Attention Sophos Central Server Protection users: in July, Sophos Server Protection is receiving an update (at no additional cost). The rollout has already started. The update brings new features, several improvements and, in our view, an unnecessary product name change.
Name changes
Let’s start with the less pleasant part. We don’t know who at Sophos comes up with product names, but we’re pretty sure we won’t be best friends. We understand that marketing plays a big role, but product names have been changed quite a few times in the past, and we were left explaining the situation to confused customers. In our opinion, Sophos hasn’t always made the best decisions when it comes to naming and renaming products.
Until now, Sophos Central Server Protection was available in “Standard” and “Advanced” editions. Going forward, the products will be renamed as follows:
- Sophos Central Server Protection Standard becomes Sophos Central Server Protection.
- Sophos Central Server Protection Advanced becomes Sophos Intercept X Advanced for Server.
Sophos Central Server Protection
Anyone currently using Sophos Server Standard can look forward to an automatic upgrade. Sophos will convert your licenses to Sophos Central Server Protection, allowing you to benefit from the Advanced features at the same price. Standard customers will gain access to:

- Synchronized Security Heartbeat™
- Web Control
- Application Control
- Peripheral Control
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
- Windows Firewall Control
- Cloud Workload Discovery (AWS Map View)
