Sophos Central Server Protection users beware! This July, Sophos server protection will receive an update (at no extra cost). The rollout has already begun. The update brings a few new features, some improvements and a, from our point of view, unnecessary name change of the product.
Let’s start with the more unpleasant part first. We don’t know the person at Sophos who comes up with the product names, but we certainly won’t be friends. We realize that a lot of this has to do with marketing, but even in the past, product names were simply changed and we were able to explain the situation to confused customers. In addition, we believe that Sophos has not always made the best decisions in the past when it comes to naming or changing the names of its products.
So now it has happened with Sophos Central Server Protection, which was previously available as a “standard” and “advanced” variant. Soon the products will be unnamed as follows:
- Sophos Central Server Protection Standard becomes Sophos Central Server Protection
- Sophos Central Server Protection Advanced becomes Sophos Intercept X Advanced for Server.
Sophos Central Server Protection
All those who are currently using Sophos Server Standard can rejoice. Sophos will automatically upgrade your licenses to Sophos Central Server Protection, allowing you to benefit from advanced features at the same price! All users with the standard version get the following new features:
- Malicious Traffic Detection (MTD)
- Synchronized Security Heartbeat™
- Web Control
- Application Control
- Peripheral Control
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
- Windows Firewall Control
- Cloud Workload Discovery (AWS Map View)
Sophos Intercept X Advanced for Server
Sophos Central Server Protection Advanced is now not only called differently, but logically also gets new features through the name, which are already known from Intercept X:
- Deep Learning
- Exploit Protection
- Active Adversary Protection
- Root Cause Analysis
