End of Life extension of the Sophos AP Series

Those who still have access points from the older Sophos AP series in use can rejoice. Actually, Sophos is scheduled to pull the plug on the devices no later than March 31, 2023. We have already informed about this in January 2020 via our blog: End of Sale – Indoor Access Points of the AP series retire

I’m sure some of you have noticed that there are major bottlenecks due to general component availability. This is a problem not only for Sophos, but for all manufacturers that rely on computer chips. As a result, Sophos is no longer able to keep up with demand for the APX series.

Sophos has now responded due to this current situation in the supply chain and the general availability of Wi-Fi components. It was decided to extend the end-of-life (EOL) date of the AP series by 9 months – from March 31, 2023 to December 31, 2023. This grace period applies to the following Sophos AP Series models:

  • AP 15/15C
  • AP 55/55C
  • AP 100/100C/100X

By extending this, Sophos is taking some pressure off our customers. On the one hand, the larger APX models, such as the APX 530 or 740, have not been available for a very long time, and on the other hand, many would rather wait for the next generation with Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E. These are expected to be released in spring 2023. Since such a migration is known to take some time, we very much welcome the move to ensure that customers can continue to manage their older Sophos AP Series models with the SFOS* operating system, UTM and Sophos Central in 2023.
