End of life extension of the Sophos AP series

End of life extension of the Sophos AP series

Anyone still running access points from the older Sophos AP Series can breathe a sigh of relief. The original plan was for Sophos to finally pull the plug on these devices by March 31, 2023 at the latest. We already reported on this in January 2020 on our blog: End of sale – indoor access points of the AP series are being retired

Many of you have probably already noticed that general component availability is causing major bottlenecks. This is not just a problem for Sophos, but for all manufacturers that depend on computer chips. As a result, Sophos is no longer able to keep up with demand for the APX Series.

Sophos has now responded to the current supply chain situation and the general availability of Wi-Fi components. It has decided to extend the End-of-Life (EOL) date for the AP Series by 9 months, from March 31, 2023 to December 31, 2023. This grace period applies to the following Sophos AP Series models:

  • AP 15/15C
  • AP 55/55C
  • AP 100/100C/100X

This extension takes some pressure off our customers. On the one hand, larger APX models such as the APX 530 or 740 have not been available for a very long time, and on the other hand many customers would rather wait for the next generation with Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E. These are expected to appear in spring 2023. Since such a migration naturally takes some time, we very much welcome the decision that customers will still be able to manage their older Sophos AP Series models in 2023 with the SFOS* operating system, UTM, and Sophos Central.
