Sophos XG Firewall licenses will be 30% more expensive
It’s summer and many people are enjoying their vacations or at least the quiet time. Sophos has now decided to make the licenses 30% more expensive 6 months before the End-of-Life of the XG Firewall and this already from October 1st.
The reason for this is to motivate customers to upgrade to the successor, the XGS Firewall. We also observed the same procedure with the End-of-Life of the UTM.
Price increase for the XG Firewall
From October 1, 2024, the price of XG Firewall licenses will increase by 30%.
This measure is intended to encourage customers to act now.
Customers with a license and a fixed term have the option of renewing their firewall at the current price until October 1. Unfortunately, customers with a monthly license do not have this option.
Sophos emphasizes in the information email that the XG series was previously exempt from price changes, which makes this adjustment necessary. Nevertheless, I am of the opinion that this adjustment could have been dispensed with for another nine months.
Change promo from XG to XGS
But for as long as I can remember, Sophos has had promos for the firewall, which have been renewed time and time again for several years. There are also always promos for switching from SG to XGS or XG to XGS, which is necessary in this case.
For existing customers, Sophos is offering a series of hardware refresh promos that will allow them to upgrade to the XGS series before the End-of-Life of the XG series on March 31, 2025.
⚠️ Important note for all users of XG Firewall Desktop Appliances, following models:
- XG 86
- XG 106
- XG 115
- XG 125
- XG 135
According to our End-of-Life calendar, it may be worth waiting a few more months to upgrade to the XGS desktop models rather than upgrading immediately.
Import backup from XG to XGS
Switching from an XG firewall appliance to an XGS firewall is straightforward.
In contrast to switching from UTM to SFOS, no complete reinstallation is required here.
Instead, you can import a backup of your current XG Firewall directly into the new XGS Firewall.
Of course, this assumes that the models are compatible.
With this simple step, the existing configurations and settings are seamlessly transferred.
It is now also possible, for example, to downgrade from an XG 430 to an XGS 2100 if the license costs have become too expensive and, of course, the IT requirements have changed.
Price reductions for XDR/MDR Integration Packs
In a welcome twist, Sophos has decided to significantly reduce the price of its XDR/MDR Integration Packs. These packs enable the integration of telemetry data from third-party security products into Sophos XDR and Sophos MDR. From September 6, 2024, the prices for term licenses will be reduced by 50%.
