Install Sophos Central Endpoint (Windows)
In this article we will show you how to install Sophos Central Endpoint Protection on your Windows PC.
Important: Unlike Intercept X, Sophos Central Endpoint cannot be installed alongside any other third-party antivirus such as Symantec, Kaspersky, McAfee, Windows Defender and others. It is therefore mandatory to uninstall the existing antivirus before installing the Sophos Central endpoint.
Requirements
- Windows 7+
- Sophos Central Account
- Admin rights on the computer
- No other antivirus installed
- Internet connection
Install Sophos Endpoint Protection
1. log in to the Sophos Central account
Log in to
https://central.sophos.com
to log in to Sophos Central Admin.
2. download installer
Click on the menu item Protect Devices in the sidebar. In the Endpoint Protection section, you will find the complete Endpoint Installer called Download Complete Windows Installer. Since you do not want to install the whole package, but only the Endpoint Protection, click on Choose Components.... Make sure that you have only checked Endpoint Protection and then click Download Installer.
Important: The complete Windows Installer includes Endpoint Protection and Intercept X. If you want to install only Endpoint Protection, or only Intercept X, click Choose Components....
3. run installer
Next, you can start the Sophos Central Endpoint setup. An Internet connection is required.
Important: Make sure that no other antivirus is installed on the computer before running the Sophos Endpoint Protection setup.
4. check installation
If the installation worked, the computer is now protected and it is listed in Sophos Central. To check this, you can click on the menu item Endpoint Protection in the sidebar and then select Computer.
Important: You must never simply delete computers in Sophos Central until the software has been uninstalled on that PC. The software is protected by Tamper Protection. To remove this protection, it is essential to link to Sophos Central.
5. assign license to correct user
If there is already a user in Sophos Central for this computer account where the endpoint was installed, you can now assign the license to this user. How to do that, you will learn in this tutorial.
