Sophos Central Intercept X – Now Available for macOS
Up to now, only Windows users have had the privilege of using Sophos Intercept X to protect themselves against unknown threats. As of today, Intercept X is also available for macOS.
What features does the Mac version offer?
Mac users need antivirus protection as well. This still bears repeating, as many people stubbornly cling to the misconception that there are no viruses for Mac. That is simply not true. For a long time, it just wasn’t worth the effort for attackers to develop malware that would only affect a relatively small group of Mac users. Compared with the Windows market share, it simply wasn’t attractive.
Although Windows still clearly dominates in terms of market share, there is now a growing volume of malware targeting the Mac. We are often glad to have our MacBooks protected by the Sophos Central endpoint. Only last week, my colleague’s Sophos endpoint triggered while he was visiting a website that attempted to mine cryptocurrency via the browser. Without the vigilant Sophos endpoint, this would have happened quietly in the background, without anyone noticing.
Intercept X for macOS does not yet offer the same extensive range of features as the Windows version. However, for an initial release, the available functionality is more than sufficient.

Purchasing Intercept X for Mac
If you already use Intercept X licences and want to protect your Mac as well as your Windows PC, simply download the Mac installer from your Sophos Central console and install the software. This works because the licence is per user, not per device.
